What is NMN and what are its effects?

NMN stands for nicotinamide mononucleotide, a chemical found in all living things. At the molecular level, it is a ribonucleotide, which is the nucleic acid RNA's basic architectural unit. A nicotinamide team, a ribose, and a phosphate team make up the particle's structure. NMN is a precursor to the important particle nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) and is regarded to be an important component in increasing NAD+ levels in cells.

In the body, how does NMN get made?

The body produces NMN from B vitamins. Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase is the enzyme that produces NMN in the body (NAMPT). NAMPT binds nicotinamide (vitamin B3) to PRPP (5'-phosphoribosyl-1-pyrophosphate), a sugar-phosphate. With the addition of a phosphate group, NMN can also be produced from 'nicotinamide riboside' (NR).

In the synthesis of NAD+, the enzyme 'NAMPT' is the rate-limiting enzyme. This means that reduced levels of NAMPT cause less NMN production, resulting in lower NAD+ levels. NAD+ production can also be sped up by using precursor molecules like NMN.

What are the several ways that NMN supplements are absorbed and distributed throughout the body?
